How much protein can you digest at once?

debruynda, I was just using that as a simple example. Besides, who doesn't like neon pee? I tried to share my neon excitement with my wife one time. Let's just say she was not as enthusiastic as I.

In the future I will show you some studies of protein absorption with the addition of enzymes. When enzymes, protein, and water are combined hydrolysis begins. About 3 years ago I had a protein that was colored and when you added water it would change a different color showing you the rate of hydrolysis.

I would also say that "at once" needs to be evaluated. When it comes to whey, it looks like as little as 15g of 50g are absorbed when taken based on a study I read earlier today. However, when it comes to casein/egg/slower proteins, I am under the impression that they are better absorbed because they are delivered to the body in a slow fashion.

Do you have a link on the study? I have yet to ready any actual scientific study on the article, or anything that is more than mostly speculation. SOMETHING would be great to have of clinical value. Thanks.....

"However, due to possible inhibition of endogenous digestive enzymes from over-processing and rapid small intestine transit time, the average amount of liquid WPC that is absorbed may be only 15 g. The combined effect of these factors may contribute to incomplete digestion, thereby limiting the absorption rate of protein before it reaches the ceacum and is eliminated as waste."

Now, for egg:

"Ingestion of 20 g of intact protein is sufficient to maximally stimulate MPS and APS after resistance exercise. Phosphorylation of candidate signaling proteins was not enhanced with any dose of protein ingested, which suggested that the stimulation of MPS after resistance exercise may be related to amino acid availability. Finally, dietary protein consumed after exercise in excess of the rate at which it can be incorporated into tissue protein stimulates irreversible oxidation."

So eating too much protein PWO just increases the rate of oxidation, IE burning protein for fuel. So, assuming that we're wanting to get our biggest bang for our buck, we'd want probably 20g BCAA/Leucine and 20g PP/hydro whey immediately PWO (to maximally stimulate synthesis) followed by micellar casein/Aussie Casein/Victoria Milk Protein + dietary fats/fiber to slowly deliver the protein you need.
