Do you have anxiety during the day as well? How often do your thoughts feel like they're racing through your head? Much of what you describe is related to hypervigilance.

In some patients, ramelteon can cause hyperprolactinemia. That can be monitored with blood tests if necessary. I know, it's not an ideal situation.

There's also trazodone, but that can cause lingering sedating effects during the day.

The name is hilarious... they should have used that for a diuretic.

As for the ingredients themselves, I'd have to do a bit of research to see what the deal is. You've also got the issue of transdermal absorption, so that depends on the vehicle they're using.

Unfortunately, with PTSD symptoms you frequently need to use things that are "industrial strength" for treatment, i.e. prescription meds.

You are a wise man Dr. Dan. I would also describe it as hyper vigilance. I don't have issues with situations, and this has helped me in certain situations. I often do side work, soon to be full time as a body guard. There are some rough drug options. I compete at a professional level, and there seems to be much compromise in the drug options. I wouldn't want to take a true sedative, unless at night. Side effects are rough.

What do you think of Valerian root? It really stinks. I heard from a friend that they read an article that is isn't liver safe, similar to kava kava. I wonder if that is safe to load up on, aka.. if one doesn't work, take another etc etc

It may be that the fatigue you described is being caused by the hypervigilance, simply because it is impossible to maintain being "revved up" like that day after day. In layman's terms, essentially you crash. I'm wondering if a low-dose sustained-release benzodiazepine might be helpful, such as alprazolam XR. Obviously as a body guard you need to be vigilant, but being in a hypervigilant state is counterproductive. The trick would be titration, because you're trying to restore a normal level of functioning without being sedated.

From the studies I've read about valerian root, it seems to be a weak sedative at best, and in some clinical trials it was no better than placebo for the treatment of insomnia. Sure, you'll find patients who claim it's helpful, but you'll find people who believe green M&Ms are an aphrodisiac.

CLA appears to have some effect on body fat distribution, but less so on weight loss.

Whether CLA causes clinically significant insulin resistance or negatively impacts DHA levels in the heart is controversial. Regardless, CLA isn't a "magic bullet" to resculpt your body and get rid of a beer-belly in a month.

Not a problem... it is very important that you explain all your symptoms to your physician. I don't know if you're seeing a psychiatrist, but you really need someone on-board who is familiar with the range of symptoms and problems people with PTSD experience.

Update. I have a few friends who work in the field of social works as I do at this time working with adjudicated youth. They felt the youth were often hung over until lunch time. Time for a test eh?

I have done little grappling or fighting training since June, which was my last pro tournament. I exercise twice a day, but am not in perfect shape. I received a call about a pro tournament 4 days before this last Saturday. Friday night, I took a Lunesta around 7pm. This had little effect due to stress, so I took a second. That worked, 6mg later.. My goal for the morning was not to restrict fluid for worry about any weight class. I drank about a gallon of water before I even arrived at the event. I flushed and flushed.

It worked great! No mystery fatigue. I went up against people up to 150 pounds heavier than me, I went 5-1. It was a great experience, and I am excited for when I can actually prepare for such an event. I will upload video and pics and soon as they are available, the highlight was choking out a 350 pound man!
