Casein vs. Whey vs Complete dairy protein

This study is one of the reasons I favor a complete dairy protein over either whey or casein alone.

As much as I think Muscle and Fitness is really just an advertisement for bogus supplements, I read an interesting article about milk and how it was the de facto supplement for bodybuilders before protein powders (which stands to reason for lack of alternatives)

One of the thing they mentioned was raw milk. You are probably the best person to ask, but do they mean milk that goes straight from the cow to the jar and does not undergo any processing?

And if so, do they even sell raw milk? I checked at the Whole Foods store which sells tons on niche products and they do not have it.

Just curious if you knew.

Raw milk is illegal to buy or sell. However...

The Amish drink it every day hint* They can lose their farm if they sell it to you. You must know someone to start the conversation. Tell the Amish man that you understand the risk, so that being said that you would like to buy "Pet milk" meaning milk that is being purchased for a pet who may need it.

There is also a website that links you to possible raw milk farms. Bring your own container.

You are getting some health benefits from it, but only 25% more protein or less due to whey. Read up on it?

Raw milk is unpasteurized and usually non homogenized. this simply means that it hasn't been heated to 161 f for 16 seconds and it hasn't been subjected to high pressure to break up fat globules. Pasteurization of milk was adopted mostly due to unsanitary conditions in dairies around the turn of the century.

I'm a huge fan of raw milk. It can be perfectly safe as long as proper manufacturing practices are observed. The problem with milk is that it has such low levels of protein. One cup of whole milk has 8 grams of protein and 13 grams of carbohydrate. this works out well if you're a growing baby, but maybe not so good for a growing bodybuilder!

The ideal protein based drink, to me, is high in native milk and whey proteins and very low in lactose. I think there is value in leaving the fat in something like this in spite of all of the anti-fat sentiment that is popular now. The proportions of whey/milk proteins are open for debate - cow's milk may not be the best place to start although it does seem to have a good track record. Now that milk can be fractionated, any blend of those fractions can be created.

Just as an aside, I drink Kefir, a fermented milk beverage, as well as raw milk. If you start with raw milk, this stuff is probably an all around better beverage than the raw milk you start with; it is low in lactose and is an incredible pro-biotic.

If I lived in Lancaster PA I might be able to approach some Amish with such a proposition but they are spartan amongst us in Northern Virginia.

Kefir, now that I can get my hands on.

Change the laws to allow freedom to drink milk and when your old and gray supplement with hormones without going to Mexico. Even if you do not intend to do either, why should you stop others from improving themselves.

My family and I drink raw milk exclusively, we have for several years.

We are members of a cow share program, basically a bunch of people own the cows and hire a farmer to board, care for, and milk thecows. The milk is a dividend of our share property.

I feel it is much healthier than processed milk. My wife drank it while she was pregnant with both my boys, and both my boys have drunk only this milk (aside from breast milk of course).

If you can get your hands on it, make the switch. You won't regret it. You'll be supporting your health, supporting the environment, supporting local farmers and keeping money in the local community (the money you pay for raw milk goes to the farmer, the money for grocery store milk goes to enourmous milk dairy corporations).
